Kushi (2023) Movie Review – A Feel-Good Romantic Drama with Some Surprises

If you’re a fan of Telugu romantic movies, then Kushi (2023) probably popped up on your radar. Directed by Shiva Nirvana and starring the ever-popular Vijay Deverakonda and Samantha Ruth Prabhu, this film had a lot of expectations riding on it. Did it deliver? Well, let’s break it down.

What’s the Movie Kushi All About?

The story follows Viplav, played by Vijay Deverakonda, who works at BSNL and lives a pretty chill life in Kashmir. One day, he meets Aaradhya (Samantha), and as expected, sparks fly. But like every good love story, there’s a twist — they come from totally different backgrounds, and their families don’t exactly see eye to eye.

The film dives into how love can survive (or struggle) when two people have totally different beliefs. It’s kind of a modern take on the whole “opposites attract” theme, with a mix of fun, drama, and some deep moments.

Performances – What Works and What Doesn’t

Vijay Deverakonda does what he does best — playing the lovable, confident guy next door. Samantha is solid as always, bringing grace and strength to Aaradhya. Together, they look great and have some cute chemistry, although the emotional connection feels a bit surface-level in parts.

The side characters add decent comic relief, especially in the first half. The second half though? It gets a bit too emotional and preachy at times.

Music and Vibes

No Telugu romantic movie is complete without good music — and Kushi absolutely delivers here. Hesham Abdul Wahab composed some soulful tracks, with “Na Roja Nuvve” being the star of the show. You’ll probably have it on loop for days — no joke.

The songs really lift the mood of the film, and the visuals (especially in Kashmir) are chef’s kiss.

What You’ll Love

  • Gorgeous visuals and locations (Kashmir looks dreamy).
  • That romantic, feel-good vibe.
  • A relatable love story with a modern touch.
  • Great music you’ll want on your playlist.

What Could Be Better

  • The second half drags a bit and feels preachy.
  • Some scenes feel a little overacted or stretched out.
  • Could’ve used tighter editing.

Final Thoughts

Kushi isn’t trying to reinvent the romantic genre, and that’s totally okay. It gives you all the things you’d expect from a feel-good love story — cute moments, pretty visuals, nice music, and characters you root for (even if they’re flawed).

If you love Vijay Deverakonda, Samantha, or just romantic Telugu films in general — give this one a go. It’s the kind of movie that leaves you smiling by the end, even if you’re rolling your eyes at a few bits along the way.
